29 Kansas Health Care Association Centers Named America's "Best Nursing Homes" by U.S. News and World Report

Author: Hayden Parker

Today, the Kansas Health Care Association and Kansas Center for Assisted Living (KHCA/KCAL) praised a select group of local, long term and post-acute care providers for being named among the country’s “Best Nursing Homes” by U.S. News & World Report.

“Kansas is fortunate to have these 29 skilled nursing care centers which have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to their residents,” said Cindy Luxem, President/CEO of KHCA/KCAL. “Behind the increasing number of ‘Best Nursing Homes’ are improvements in clinical care and nurses spending more time with residents, all of which means a better quality of life for Kansas’s seniors and individuals with disabilities.”

U.S. News determines its annual rankings through data collected from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The federal agency assigns each nursing center certified by the government a rating of one to five stars through its Five-Star Rating System. U.S. News names all those with a five-star rating a “Best Nursing Home.” For more information on how the rankings are determined, please visit: http://health.usnews.com/best-nursing-homes.

While the “Best Nursing Homes” of 2014 celebrates those nursing centers which have earned a five-star ranking by the federal government, KHCA/KCAL reminds consumers that rankings are not a precise indicator of whether a center is right for an individual needing care.

“Our loved ones’ care is too important to leave to a search on the World Wide Web,” continued Cindy Luxem “Nursing centers across Kansas are providing excellent care, and you can see it when you walk through the doors. Visiting a nursing center is really the best way to decide the appropriate fit for each individual requiring long term or post-acute care.”

Have you done your cost reports yet?

Author: Hayden Parker

There is only one day left until the February 28th deadline for cost reports.  As yet, KDADS has received less than 1/3 of the cost reports for nursing homes in the state.  As you are all aware, cost reports are the starting point for the rate setting process each fiscal year.  Sending cost reports after the due date, or waiting to the last minute to submit the cost report is going to create a significant delay in the rate-setting process.  This situation may well mean that rates will not be calculated and uploaded by July 1st.   Further, any delay in submitting rates to the managed care organizations may potentially complicate and/or slow the reimbursement process.
