Author: Hayden Parker

The American Health Care Association (AHCA) and National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) are preparing for their 2014-2015 election cycles for the AHCA Board of Governors and NCAL Board of Directors. The AHCA elections are for three officer positions (Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary/Treasurer), one Not for Profit Representative, one Multifacility Representative and three At-large Representatives.

In accordance with the AHCA bylaws, located at the AHCA Council of States elects the AHCA officers on an annual basis.  The At-large Representatives are elected on an annual basis as well.  However, the number of At-large seats up for election in any given year is dependent upon the positions available.  Three of the five At-large seats are up for election in 2014.  Two At-large seats will be up for election in 2015.

The Not for Profit, Independent Owner, Regional Multifacility and Multifacility Representatives are elected on an annual basis.  Just like the At-large seats, the specific constituency seats that come up for election varies from year to year.  The Not for Profit and Multifacility Representative positions are up for election in 2014.  The Independent Owner and Regional Multifacility Representative positions will be up for election in 2015.

The NCAL elections are for the three officer positions (Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary/Treasurer) and seven at-large Representatives.  In accordance with the NCAL bylaws, located at  NCAL's Board of Directors and State Leaders elect NCAL's officers and 7 of 14 At-large Representatives on an annual basis.

AHCA/NCAL's Credentialing Committee will conduct the certification process for all candidates seeking office for AHCA and NCAL.  Both elections will take place in October 2014 at the AHCA/NCAL annual convention in Washington, DC.

Owners/Administrators: KDADS to Re-run Rate Schedules

KHCA received word today that KDADS is going to re- run rate schedules that will be out soon to address the change in the bed tax pass-through amount due to the increase in the provider assessment.

Please be on the lookout for these new Case Mix Rate schedules and use this template to evaluate the accuracy of the new pass-through amount.  It's entirely possible the State will use data you've entered on a quarterly basis rather than the data from the recently filed cost reports to update the Medicaid share so there may be some small variances in the computation.

National Nursing Home Week- May 11-17, 2014

Celebrate a Hawaiian Theme for  National Nursing Home Week 2014

In Hawaii, the word "aloha" has a deeper cultural significance than a simple greeting or farewell.  In Hawaiian culture it is important to treat yourself and others with aloha, to interact with love and respect and joyfully share life. By applying this spirit of aloha to daily life, the people of Hawaii are encouraged to treat others with deep care, respect and humility, leading to individuals creating a better world. Key concepts of aloha spirit include unity, kindness, truthfulness, humility and patience.
