CMS Releases New QAPI Tools


The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released several new Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) process tools.

In a collaborative effort with the University of Minnesota, Stratis Health, subject matter experts, consumer groups, and nursing home stakeholders, CMS created these tools that may be used to implement and apply some of the basic principles of QAPI.

Just last week, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Marilyn Tavenner told the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) technology conference that the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Edition (ICD-10) will go into effect this fall on Oct. 14, 2014 with no further delays.

Who needs to pay attention to this effective date? If your services/program is covered by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), then transitioning to ICD-10 code sets is mandatory.
